Getting Started

Quick Start Guide

Get up and running with Scrappy in under 5 minutes. This guide will walk you through creating your first project, adding a source, and running your first scraping job.

Prerequisites

Before you start, you'll need a Scrappy account. If you don't have one yet, sign up for free to get 100 credits to start.

Step 1: Create a Project

Projects help you organize your leads by campaign or purpose. Think of them as folders for your data.

  1. Navigate to your Dashboard
  2. Click the "New Project" button in the top right
  3. Give your project a name (e.g., "NYC Real Estate Agents")
  4. Optionally add a description and select a color
  5. Click "Create Project"

Tip: Use descriptive names for your projects. This makes it easier to find your leads later.

Step 2: Add a Source

Sources are the websites you want to scrape for leads. You can add sources manually or use AI to discover relevant websites.

Option A: Use AI Discovery

  1. In your project, click "Discover Sources"
  2. Describe what you're looking for (e.g., "real estate agents in New York City")
  3. Scrappy will suggest relevant directories and websites
  4. Review the suggestions and click "Add" on the ones you want

Option B: Add Manually

  1. Click "Add Source" in your project
  2. Enter the URL of the website you want to scrape
  3. Configure the selectors for the data you want to extract (name, email, phone, etc.)
  4. Choose the scrape type (Static for simple sites, Dynamic for JavaScript-heavy sites)
  5. Click "Save Source"

Step 3: Run Your First Scrape

Once you have a source configured, you can run a scraping job to extract leads.

  1. Select the source you want to scrape
  2. Click "Run Scrape"
  3. Watch the progress in real-time as Scrappy extracts contact information
  4. When complete, your leads will appear in the project's leads list

Credit Cost: Each scraping job costs 10 credits by default. Email validation costs 1 credit per email.

Step 4: Review and Export Leads

After your scrape completes, you can review, filter, and export your leads.

  • Filter: Use the filters to narrow down leads by status, company, or tags
  • Validate: Click "Validate Emails" to verify email addresses
  • Export: Download your leads as CSV or JSON
